Dear Alli, Unfortunately , DALnet can't just give you the channel because you were the last active aop there! In order to register it, you have to wait until all bots part the channel (which, I think, won't happen soon) then you get it by typing the channel registration command. There have been many channels that have the same situation as #sydney and some of them have been unregistred for years, and as far as I know , DALnet has NEVER gave any channel to anybody just because he deserves it more than others! Good luck :p MiracuLous @ DALnet -----Original Message----- From: dalnet-request@lists.dal.net To: dalnet@lists.dal.net Sent: Sun, 7 Jan 2007 8:09 PM Subject: DALnet Digest, Vol 1, Issue 1 Send DALnet mailing list submissions to dalnet@lists.dal.net To subscribe or unsubscribe via the World Wide Web, visit https://lists.dal.net/mailman/listinfo/dalnet or, via email, send a message with subject or body 'help' to dalnet-request@lists.dal.net You can reach the person managing the list at dalnet-owner@lists.dal.net When replying, please edit your Subject line so it is more specific than "Re: Contents of DALnet digest..." I am sure you have had many enquiries about the #Sydney channel but I feel things are getting out of hand and I would like the situation resolved. About a year ago (February 2006), the founders Nickname Fatal_Terrain expired whilst I was opped in the channel #Sydney. The packeting was severe enough to damage data on my pc and I was unable to regain my ops when I came back online. Ever since then, the channel has been sitting unregistered with over 30 + bots in it at any one time. Since then, there has been many people chasing the channel such as a user "zhunyi" who has decided to register all Australian Channels that he can. I believe that he knows the person that packeted me off dalnet so I couldn't register #Sydney or he travels in his circle of friends. I know he owns a lot of nicknames to avoid being stopped in registering all the channels that he can. He is also inviting other users with a bot script in the channel to try and lead them out of there so he can register it. I know there are bots of his (and others) that have been scripted to register the channel if it did become vacant to stop anyone who is at their ! console from registering it fairly. I have tried to contact irc ops on many occasions, all stating that they can not do anything to rectify this. I was wondering if there was any way that the channel can be registered to me (my nickname is alli) or something be done to close the channel since it is being wasted with bots instead of people who want to chat in there. As the channel is named after a capital city in Australia, and had previously been used to communicate in by a large number of people, the "blocking" of this channel in this manner means that registering another channel and trying to bring it up to the level of popularity would be difficult. IRCops knew the situation surrounding the channel, I was the last active op in the channel and it was taken from me unfairly. I believe that something needs to be done about this so the channel is operated fairly. Logs were also provided to irc ops at the time, again showing that I was packeted off as well as the channel being flooded as well. I also provided data logs of being packeted to the IRCop. Any information you can provide is appreciated and I hope something can be done to rectify this fairly.
