We're trying to run Bahamut/SolidIRCd on a private (non-Internet) network and were wondering how to start a NickServ bot (and MemoServ bot as well). The IRCd is up and functioning well for channel discussions. We'd like to implement nick reg, however. Running Bahamut v1.4.8/SolidIRCd v3.4.8.

Hi, Can you please confirm whether there are any issues with your software under FreeBSD/amd64? I am having issues with hostname lookups of connecting clients constantly failing. There is an instance of bind running on the machine thats running the ircd. nslookup requests are working fine on the machine. I have tried completely disabling the firewall on the machine incase the firewall (pf) was dropping packets.. This didnt help. I dont recall having the problem on FreeBSD/i386, so am curious whether this is something thats a bug specific to 64 bit builds. I am running FreeBSD 7.0-RELEASE/amd64 on a Q6600 CPU. If you require further information, please let me know.

Help Needed.

Hi, I am running my own server and doing my bit to help people interact with each other, i myself is using bahamut with the version, bahamut-1.8(04). irc.sirfhum.com aABCdEFhiMstTY/Hw TS5ow RPL1 NP[kLU]. We've Sirvnet as well. All i want to know is one thing, as i can join channels through this command, /sajoin #channelname, If I want to force others to join the channel by using these commands, /sajoin #channelname Username OR /sajoin username #channel, just like it happens to be in an Unreal Irc, do you please let me know the coding of how could i possibly use this command to force others to join some channel? I've seen Ircops using this command on other bahamut coded servers. I'll be waiting for your reply, you all have done such a wonderful work, I appreciate that and now i am looking forward to you so that you can help me with this coding, Thanks in advance. bahamut says netsplit?

Hello! I have a single server set up here at work. with bahamut ircd. Everything works fine, but when i create a new channel it says "*** Notice -- Due to a network split, you can not obtain channel operator status in a new channel at this time." But i dont have any other connected servers, and i have uncomment those lines in the config. What to do? Thank! Daniel

IRC and cellular phones

Hello to all, excuse for my English. I have in mind a project: to do that the users can connect to the IRC from the cellular telephone through text messages (SMS), the problem is in which when being connected all the users from single host (the host has connection with the irc and the cellular operator for send and receive sms), all of them would appear like clones since they connect from the same IP. I could install a ircd for this porpuse? (just cellular phones can connect to this irc server ) how I could solve the problems of clones? Juan Carlos Morales

I want to report something wrong on a command. When you type /chanserv help it will appear this thing normaly: [17:56] -ChanServ- For more information on a command /msg ChanServ(a)services.dal.net help <command> , right? But is not like that, I saw it appears like this: [17:56] -ChanServ- For more information on a command /msg ChanServ(a)services.dal.net help <command . So can you add at the end this thing ">"? Problem with bahamut

I'm running 1.8.4-release, and I'm having a problem getting it to launch. It hangs. robbie@Schizm$ ./ircd bahamut-1.8(04) booting... Security related issues should be sent to coders(a)dal.net All other issues should be sent to dalnet-src(a)dal.net Initializing Encryption...1024 bytes of entropy loaded. It won't go any further than that, and I can't use ctrl C to get out of it. I have to close my connection to the shell. Have you had this problem before? If so, how did you fix it?

If it has, sorry, I missed it’ Q) Is it possible to code in the ‘nick’ of the Sop and the date of when an akick is added to the list? I believe the mode may have been proposed previously but lacked the +r exclusion. I think this may turn the argument slightly. Firstly, let me explain the need for the channel mode. I believe there are a few reasons why such a mode is necessary. In my experience, the vast majority of problem users come from one of three categories: a) The "script kiddie". This user revels in agonizing others and possesses a substandard grasp of common decency. This user may have access to a wide variety of IP space and is difficult to stop. I, personally, can not think of a server-side solution to this problem (nor a client-side solution!). b) The "angry visitor". For whatever reason this user is having an unpleasant experience. Clash of personalities, personal politics, whatever. This user might just leave on his own, but a /kickban will ensure. User has little desire to return. No additional steps necessary. c) The "general, nonsensical irritant". This is the big one. This includes clone bots, spam bots, zombies, flooders, spammers, and the dredges of society. Short of implementing an IRC CAPTCHA, there is little one can do to prevent such activity. However, in my experience, these users hail from ISPs who are too lazy, apathetic, or a combination thereof to implement a standardized DNS system. The proposed mode targets these users. Some might suggest using the existing +R to filter out these users, but I find this significantly hinders the ability of a channel to gain new users. "How is this different, idiot?" I hear you ask. Well, the difference is the place of the burden. With my proposed channel mode, the burden is placed on the ISP instead of the user. +R requires an existing knowledge of DALnet's services -- which, in my opinion, is an unfair burden. +U, however, requires an existing knowledge of DNS for the network administrator of a presumably large ISP. I do not feel this is an inappropriate burden. If emerging ISPs had better DNS infrastructures, it would be trivial for a channel administrator to ban them if they experienced large problems from those providers. While it is technically possible to ban the offending ISPs' netblocks using CIDR notation, i feel it is an unfair burden of the channel administrator to research every block the provider owns. Additionally, with multiple providers, this may fill the banlist quickly. In the event an innocent user suffers at the hands of their ignorant ISP, the +r exemption comes into play. I think this is as near a CAPTCHA as one can hope in such an event. Clearly a channel mode that may prevent users from joining a channel based on decision they have little power over should not be in place on official help channels. "Make a script, you lazy jerk!" The only way to implement this feature on the client-side is to parse on-join events, apply a regex to the host, and make a decision. This works, but causes two problems: * With a sufficiently large channel, the ban list will fill. * With a sufficiently large channel, the scrollback buffer of the client will fill (or at least become a burden on the conversation -- join, kick, ban. join, kick, ban. join, kick, ban) Also, this doesn't take into account +r umode. An automated system would have to WHOIS each user and parse those results as well. With a new channel mode, there is only ever 1 line, the mode change, and no bans are required. I expect the largest amount of criticism will come from the "there are plenty of annoying users who have resolvable hosts" crowd. I agree, we'll never be able to filter out all of them. The same argument was probably used against +R. Some users have registered nicknames and still spam. There's no silver bullet, but we can always strive to improve.
